WINNERS HANHAM MINOR LEAGUE U’11 DIV D 2002 / 03

29th April 2006  - Newsletter no.3

We have reached the end of another season and for Richard and myself, we feel this has been a hugely successful one as the boys have really played extremely well both as individuals and together as a team. Whether we do get promoted or remain in Division 3 doesn’t really matter as we really have laid a very good foundation for the final 2 seasons of youth football. There has been such a difference this season from the last 2 and we are confident we can go from strength to strength providing the boys remain committed to listening, learning and playing to the best of their abilities. I think the secret to our team success and spirit is simply because we do not have any ‘superstar’ players. Everyone is treated as an equal and we maintain we have a very talented set of players who are all very important members of the squad in whatever position they play. I hope as the boys develop over the next 2 years they remember these important factors which will ultimately help them in adult football. It is especially pleasing that so many of the boys remain in the team that started way back in 1999. Not many teams can boast having the same players for 7 consecutive seasons! SO, WELL DONE TO EACH PLAYER AND WITH AN EXCITING SUMMER OF FOOTBALL TO WATCH, I HOPE THIS GIVES THE BOYS EVEN MORE INSPIRATION FOR NEXT SEASON.

TRAINING:     Providing we have sufficient support from the boys, I propose to hold our final session on SAT 6 MAY mainly to prepare for our Sixes tournament at the end of May. The boys that are not available for our Sixes matches are still welcome to train please. We will then take a well earned rest from training and provisionally I will propose we return to training on SAT 29 JULY 06. Naturally I will confirm this nearer the time as of course this is School Holidays time etc. If you already have Holidays booked for the Summer, it would helpful to know when you are away for the purpose of both training and friendly matches.

SOCIAL EVENING:    As before, I am open to suggestions for either an end of season or pre season get together, or both if you wish! We could use the Skittle Alley at The New Inn pub again unless someone has any alternative suggestions. Please, don’t be shy, come forward if you any good ideas!

KIT:     At the very least I feel we need to provide new shower jackets and perhaps warm up / training tops for all the players for next season. If possible, new home and / or away kit would be nice as well. However, all of this costs money which we don’t have and therefore we need to source a generous sponsor, or sponsors,  who, in return, can have their company name / logo emblazoned across our kit and on our website. I would therefore ask all parents and associates to ask any companies, individuals or businesses they know if they are interested. The sooner the better as it does take a little time to organise and obviously we would want any new kit for the start of next season. I have access to a very competitive and quality kit supplier and I already have the details and prices to present to anyone interested. I know this can sometimes be a difficult question to ask but with everyone’s help it would really be special and boost team spirit to all of the players and supporters if we could all have the same training and warm kits.

Finally, a big thank you to all those that have helped during the season, or just been on the touchline watching the matches. Special thanks of course to Richard Boulton for his massive input at training and on match days and to our team physio John Hurrell Smith who is irreplaceable. Not forgetting the most important people, the players. WELL DONE. Enjoy the Summer break and I hope like me you are really looking forward to next season.
